Wyomissing Creek Macroinvertebrate Inventory: Is Our Creek Healthy?
Penn State's Master Watershed Stewards will be leading this enrichment activity for twelve year olds and up. Aquatic macroinvertebrates include insects in their nymph and larval stages that spend at least part of their lives in water. As long as the creek depth and flow rate are safe, we will be getting in the water to collect macroinvertebrates with strainers. Afterwards we will identify what was collected and discuss how macroinvertebrates help reveal the health of the stream. We will also discuss how we can help keep our waterways clean and healthy for the benefit of wildlife and humans.
It is important to come prepared to get wet! Footwear is especially important due to slippery rocks. Wear shoes with thicker soles and good traction (i.e. rubber boots, Chacos, old sneakers). No bare feet, no flip flops, and no Crocs. Registration and signed liability waiver required to participate.
Participants should part at the gravel lot on Old Mill Road - across from the Wyomissing Pool, and then about about eight to ten minutes to Ruth's Bridge. We will meet at Ruth's Bridge on Old Wyomissing Road at 2:15 PM.
Limited Space Is Available:
The session is capped at 15 participants - a wait list will be created but participation cannot be guaranteed.
