Wyomissing Gears Up for Annual Trout Fishing Rodeo

Wyomissing, PA – The anticipation is building as Wyomissing prepares to host its much-loved Annual Trout Fishing Rodeo on Saturday, May 11th, 2024. This family-friendly event promises a morning of excitement and camaraderie as young anglers gather to showcase their skills and reel in some impressive catches.

Organized by the dedicated volunteers of the Wyomissing Trout Fishing Rodeo Committee, this year's event will take place at the Stone House Lawn and along Wyomissing Creek. Participants will compete in various age categories, vying to catch the most fish within a given time limit and reel in the largest fish from the creek.

"The Wyomissing Trout Fishing Rodeo is a cherished tradition that celebrates the joy of fishing and fosters a sense of community among our youngest residents," said Pieter Miller, Co-Chair of the Wyomissing Trout Fishing Rodeo Committee. "It's an opportunity for kids to connect with nature, learn new skills, and create lasting memories with their families and friends."

In addition to the thrill of the competition, participants can look forward to exciting prizes generously donated by local businesses. The Eric J. Miller family is proud to sponsor the "Joseph A. Miller Participation Prize" in honor of his father, Joseph A. Miller - one of the founding members of the “8 to 80 Wyomissing Fishing Club” back in 1950. Joseph A. Miller's dedication to the Fishing Rodeo made it not only a family tradition but also a cherished event for generations of Wyomissing residents.

"The Wyomissing Fishing Rodeo holds a special place in our hearts as a family-friendly tradition," said Eric J. Miller. "In honor of my father's legacy and the joy he found in fishing, my family is delighted to give back to the community by offering Reading Fightin Phils tickets for every registered child to fish, valid for any home game during the 2024 season."

Joseph's two sons, Eric J. and Pieter Miller, stay actively involved with the rodeo to ensure this time-honored tradition carries on. Their dedication to preserving their father's legacy and fostering community spirit is evident in their continued commitment to the event's success.

To add to the excitement, the team from TCO Fly Shop will be hosting a fly-fishing demonstration and instruction session on Friday afternoon at 5:00 PM, as well as on the day of the rodeo. This interactive experience will offer participants valuable insights and tips to enhance their fishing skills.

Additionally, the Gourmand Café Food Truck will be on site Saturday morning, serving up delicious breakfast and lunch options for participants and spectators alike. From freshly brewed coffee to gourmet sandwiches, attendees can refuel and recharge while enjoying the festivities.
