FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Step into the beauty of autumn and the rich history of Wyomissing with the 2024 Fall Walk Series—where nature and heritage meet in a breathtaking journey through the Parklands.

Wyomissing, PA – The Borough of Wyomissing's Parks & Recreation Department is thrilled to announce this year’s Fall Walk Series, a perfect blend of autumn’s seasonal beauty and local history. As the vibrant colors of fall sweep through the Parklands, we invite residents and visitors alike to experience a journey that celebrates nature and the rich heritage of our community.

This year’s walks offer not only stunning views of the Parklands in their autumnal splendor but also educational insights into Wyomissing’s historic landmarks and hidden treasures. Along the way, participants will have the chance to explore points of interest like the echoing "Old Man Echo," the former site of Lutz's Farm, Rieth’s Gristmill, and other significant locations that have shaped the borough’s past.

Randy McKinley, Director of Recreation for the Borough of Wyomissing, shared his enthusiasm, stating, “In preparing for this event this year, it's been such a wonderful opportunity to learn about the history of Wyomissing and how important of a role parks and recreation played in Ferdinand Thun and Henry Janssen's vision.

Throughout the Parklands, we will feature a series of yard signs with QR codes at various points of interest. Walkers can simply scan these codes using their cell phone cameras to access additional information and learn more about the historical and ecological significance of each site. It’s a perfect way to deepen your understanding of Wyomissing’s unique landscape as you walk.

Mark your calendars for three scenic Sunday morning walks:

  • Sunday, September 29th
  • Sunday, October 13th
  • Sunday, November 10th
Registration Details: With ongoing construction at the Stone House and Lawn area, registration will be held at the Goodman Barn, located just off Old Wyomissing Road in the Parklands. Registration is open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on each walk day.
In the spirit of giving back, we encourage voluntary donations to the Wyomissing Recreation Department. All proceeds help create inclusive programs and events for our residents. We are also proud to continue our partnership with Helping Harvest Fresh Food Bank. If you’re able, please bring canned or non-perishable food donations to support local families in need as we enter the fall and holiday seasons.

Whether you’re here for the breathtaking scenery, the historical insights, or the sense of community, the 2024 Fall Walk Series has something for everyone. Don’t miss this opportunity to explore Wyomissing’s natural beauty and historical treasures this autumn!
