Observe. Identify. Connect.

Get ready to explore Berks County.  This spring, our community is taking part in the City Nature Challenge (CNC)—a worldwide event that invites people to discover and document the plants, animals, and fungi in their local environment. CNC is a unique way to engage with nature, foster community connections, and contribute to global biodiversity research.

What is the City Nature Challenge?
The City Nature Challenge is an annual event where people of all ages use the iNaturalist app to photograph and identify wildlife. By participating, you’ll help scientists track species distribution and biodiversity trends while learning more about the natural world right in your backyard.

When and How to Join?
Between April 25-28, 2025, grab your phone, step outside, and snap photos of any wild plant, animal, or fungus you find. Upload your observations to iNaturalist, and they’ll count toward Berks County’s efforts in this global challenge.

Afterward, from April 29-May 4, 2025, a team of experts and nature enthusiasts will review and verify observations, helping to paint a clearer picture of our region’s ecological landscape.

This is a great opportunity for nature enthusiasts to connect with the outdoors while making a real impact on conservation efforts. Let’s showcase the incredible biodiversity of The Parklands and see how we compare with communities around the world.
